I. Background

The Intel-AIM Corporate Responsibility Award (IACRA) is an integral component of the family of activities that comprise the Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR) and the Asian CSR Awards.

The INTEL-AIM Corporate Responsibility Award (IACRA) honors specific companies, NGOs, organizations in Asia for excellent CSR projects in one or more of the following areas:

  • Education – Improving Access to and Quality of Basic Education
  • Community Involvement – providing sustainable executive time and attention
  • Environmental Stewardship – taking the lead in improving the environment
  • Poverty Alleviation through providing innovative use of ICT

The main criteria that should cut across these areas is that the organization (and in rare cases, and individual) has made CSR an integral part of the way they do business and has implemented interesting innovative CSR projects or programs that have an impact and are sustainable.

To be clear, IACRA recognizes a company or organization, not a specific CSR project or program.

IACRA is presented by Intel and the Asian Institute of Management (AIM). The secretariat is managed by OIC EVENTS, specialists in regional conferences and awards.

The Awards ceremony will take place during the Gala Dinner of the Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR) 2008 and the Asian CSR Awards on November 21, 2008 at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel in Singapore. Hundreds of senior executives and professionals from government, business, civil society and the media will be present.

II. Search and Selection Process

There is an exhaustive search and selection process that involves AIM alumni and AFCSR partners in Asia and INTEL offices in the region taking part in the nomination phase. This is followed by initial screening before short-listing and final judging.

1. Generating Entries

In addition to nominations made by AIM alumni and INTEL offices, IACRA will accredit reputable organizations who are national award giving bodies throughout the region to nominate the winners of their local CSR awards to the regional IACRA. There can be up to three nominees per award-giving body.

(AIM and Intel reserve the right to nominate their own candidates via the network of INTEL offices and AIM alumni in the region.)

Each nomination from whatever source, including the finalists elected by national organizations must be accompanied by a 1,000 word summary justifying why the company deserves the award. It is necessary that the person or organization nominating must have a good knowledge of the organization he or she is nominating.

2. Initial Processing
The Awards Secretariat processes the entries, collates the summaries and submits these for consideration to the IACRA Selection Committee.

3. Judging Process
Representatives from AFCSR (the co-chairs), Asian Institute of Management, Intel, an internationally known advocate, and one or two regional NGOs are formed into an IACRA Selection Committee. The IACRA Selection Committee is usually comprised of five to seven members. The committee reviews the entries submitted to them and decides who the winner and runners up are.

The successful companies (winner and runners up) are those who in the OPINION of the judges’ best fit the IACRA criteria as specified above. There will be one winner and one runner up. Note that if there are no exceptional companies to be awarded, the IACRA Selection Committee is not committed to give an award.
