During spring 2008, it was revealed that underage labourers had been employed by suppliers to Telenor’s Bangladeshi mobile provider Grameenphone. At Telenor, we quickly realised that we had not been sufficiently vigilant with respect to this challenge, and that we needed to develop a group-wide response that would be applicable in all Telenor markets.

We have developed a workable model of community engagement for our cement manufacturing company, and experienced that it has laid the foundation for sustainability for the Company through receiving our license to operate from our neighbor stakeholders. Ambuja Cements Management today discusses this as an investment rather than expenditure and has built it into its core strategy.
