
Rafael Moreno Alunan III
Rafael M. Alunan III is a product of the private and public sectors.
He is currently the President and a Trustee of the Lopez Group Foundation, Inc., and Trustee in two other foundations of the Group – First Philippine Conservation Inc. and Bayan Academy. He also heads the Lopez Group’s Lifelong Wellness System; and is the President of FWV Biofields, Inc., a Lopez start-up company focused on biofuels.
His previous engagements in the Lopez Group were as President and/or Director of Maynilad Water Services, Inc., First Philippine Infrastructure Development Corp., Manila North Tollways Corporation and Tollways Management Corporation. Before joining the Lopez Group, he served briefly as President of The Manila Hotel, and sat in the board of Coca-Cola Amatil in Sydney, Australia. His immediate past engagement was with the De La Salle University System where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees and the Board of Regents.
Mr. Alunan also sits in the boards of Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc., Sun Life Financial Plans, Inc., Sun Life of Canada Prosperity Balanced Fund, Inc., and Pepsi Cola Products (Philippines), Inc.; and serves in various Audit, Compliance, Governance and Compensation committees. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Management Association of the Philippines; President of Kilosbayan, a non-partisan ethics-oriented people’s organization; and is a columnist in the Business World.
He served in the Cabinets of Presidents Corazon C. Aquino and Fidel V. Ramos as Secretary of Tourism and Secretary of the Interior and Local Government, respectively. He holds the rank of full Colonel in the Armed Forces of the Philippines and held the posts of Commanding Officer of the 131st Infantry Division (Standby Reserve) and the 9th Infantry Division (Ready Reserve) of the Philippine Army.
Mr. Alunan obtained his double degree in Business Administration and History-Political Science from the De La Salle University; attended the Master’s in Business Administration-Senior Executive Program of the Ateneo de Manila University; earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government; and is a graduate of the Philippine Army’s Command and General Staff College.
